At HARS, we take data privacy very seriously and we keep our use of your personal data to an absolute minimum.

Here is a short and simple summary of what data we gather, and why.

The Website:

There are no cookies set by HARS on our website.  Those that are set are done so via WordPress© and their partners providing plugins themselves over which we have no control.  Our website is constructed and delivered via the free service offered by WordPress© and so please refer to this site for more information about WordPress and its associated plugin partners, https://automattic.com/privacy-notice/

Our web host logs visitor IP addresses, along with some basic browser information. We may occasionally view aggregate data regarding visitor numbers or search terms to find us. We may also view this data if we suspect our site is under attack or being used for illegal activity. We encourage inquisitive, well behaved visitors, but we need to retain information regarding the inevitable bad actors.

Our pages, particularly our news page, may occasionally embed content from 3rd party websites, such as Twitter and YouTube. Viewing these items may expose you to tracking by these 3rd parties. For further details, you will need to view the privacy policies of these 3rd party sites, as they are not something over which we have any control.

Membership:

If you decide to join the club, we will need to store some basic additional information about you, such as:

  • Your name.
  • Your callsign (if you hold an amateur radio licence).
  • Your contact details.
  • Whether or not you have paid your membership subs for the current year, and other relevant information to enable the efficient running of the society.

We will need to retain the above information for as long as you are a member of HARS.

If you subsequently decide to leave the club, we will normally retain your information and keep you informed about the club’s activities unless you request otherwise.  If you would rather not hear from us again, just let us know, and we will ensure that you are removed from our records.  We are fully compliant with GDPR requirements.

The reason we do this is we are a small, close-knit group. The line between being an organised society and a group of friends playing with radios tends to get quite blurry in a small club, and most of our former members remain in close contact with current members, even if they are no longer regular participants at meetings.
